DTF printing for France: what to know before ordering

DTF production for the French market - Beetee

DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing has been booming in France since 2023. For a French SME, sports club or association, there are three options: a DTF workshop in France, a low-cost online player (often China or Poland), or a Belgian workshop close to the border. Here is an honest comparison to help you choose.

The French DTF market in 2026

The French DTF offering falls into two groups:

  • Dedicated DTF workshops (often young, created after 2022): variable quality, limited capacity, fair prices but little flexibility during demand peaks.
  • Established screen printers that added DTF: higher prices, minimum orders inherited from screen printing (often 30 pieces), long lead times in high season.

On top of these are online platforms (Spreadshirt, Printful) offering DTF "per unit" but with unstable quality and logistics often shipped from Germany or Poland.

Why order from Belgium for delivery to France?

Beetee is based in Huizingen (Belgium), 30 minutes from the Hauts-de-France border. Three structural advantages compared with an equivalent French workshop:

  1. No setup costs and a 20-piece minimum — where most French screen printers offering DTF impose a 25-50 piece minimum, we start from 20 pieces with no technical fees.
  2. Shorter production lead times in high season (back-to-school, year-end). The Belgian DTF market is less saturated, so there is less of a queue.
  3. VAT not applicable under the exemption scheme: Beetee does not charge VAT.

Customs, VAT, hidden fees

This is a frequent concern. The clear answer: there are no customs duties between Belgium and France. Both countries are in the European Union and the Eurozone. In practice:

  • No customs duties: goods move freely.
  • No import formalities: no SAD declaration, no customs broker.
  • Shipping costs identical to a domestic French shipment: standard Colissimo 2-3 days for ~EUR 9-15, Chronopost express 24h for ~EUR 25-35.
  • VAT: not applicable under the exemption scheme, stated on the quote and the invoice.

For a textile order delivered to France, the invoicing and VAT rules therefore come down to this: no VAT is charged under the exemption scheme, and that mention appears on both the quote and the invoice.

3 use cases where Belgium wins

Hauts-de-France SME — 30 workwear polos

Lille, Roubaix, Tourcoing, Valenciennes, Maubeuge: Beetee is closer than most French DTF shops. D+1 delivery via DPD or Chronopost, or pickup in Huizingen by appointment (15-30 min from the border).

Paris firm — 12 team hoodies with logo

For an order of < 30 pieces, most French screen printers refuse or charge high technical fees. Our DTF starts from 20 pieces. Colissimo delivery to Paris in D+2.

Bordeaux sports association — 80 jerseys with names

Club logos in DTF + individual names and numbers in flock. A French screen printer cannot do individual names in screen printing: they re-invoice them in DTF anyway. You might as well go full DTF from the start.

Realistic lead times to France

  • Production in Huizingen: 5 to 15 working days (express 5 days possible at +20%).
  • Shipping to mainland France: Colissimo 2-3 working days, Chronopost 24h, DPD D+2.
  • Total realistic: 3 weeks from quote approval to parcel receipt.

For urgent orders (back-to-school, festival, event), we offer express production in 5 working days (+20% on the invoice). Still plan for 4 weeks for student-graduation orders in June-July.
